Alcohol and ADHD
There is increasing evidence and links between alcohol misuse and ADHD in men and women. Research in 2026 by Trinity College Dublin found that one in five people seeking treatment for alcohol and substance misuse had symptoms of ADHD. This is important information which helps inform both the assessment process and treatment considerations.
Are you seeking professional support, information and counselling for an alcohol related problem or process behaviour? Do you need help regaining control of your drinking or starting a period of sobriety, alcohol freedom or abstinence? Are you a woman or mother who is ready to change her relationship with alcohol while also boosting health, wellbeing and confidence?
Orlagh Reid works closely with men and women coming to therapy to understand and change their relationship with alcohol or start alcohol treatment and recovery. Understanding neurodivergence, in particular ADHD, Autism and AuDHD in adults presenting with problem alcohol misuse and abuse, is important as part of a holistic and integrative approach to treating alcohol problems.
ALCOHOL ASSESSMENT AND ADHD SCREENING
Orlagh provides a range of alcohol assessment screening tools for new clients, which include screening for ADHD symptoms, Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD), Depression, Stress and Anxiety (DASS-42), Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), Post-Traumatic Stress (PTSD) and related conditions. These screening tools are important part of assessment and provide in-depth insight into each individual client’s experience. They help us identify factors, causes and challenges presenting in men and women and help tailor treatment options.
Orlagh specialises in alcohol sobriety, recovery and alcohol freedom at any age or stage and has a special interest in working with women, mothers, neurodivergent and LGBTQI+ people who are ready to change their relationship with alcohol and cut down significantly, cut out completely or access alcohol treatment and rehabilitation with compassion, guidance and support.

WHAT IS ADDICTION AND RECOVERY COUNSELLING?
Addiction and recovery counselling is integrative, holistic and solution-focused with a strong emphasis on psycho-education, intervention, understanding sobriety, working through trauma, childhood and attachment issues, wellbeing & relationship healing. Not all clients attending counselling will specifically seek or require addiction counselling.
