Mama, It’s Not the Wine You Need!
There is a message being sold to mothers everywhere, every day, all the time, and it is so normalised that most of us barely question it. The ‘Mommy needs wine‘ mantra is on gift cards, cups and kitchen signs, from funky plant pots to sparkly wine glasses.
Motherhood is exhausting. Wine will help. (It doesn’t)
Motherhood is overwhelming. You deserve a drink. (No, you deserve support)
Motherhood is relentless. This is how you cope. (No, it stops you coping)
It sounds harmless, and fun, even comforting. It’s validating for many. Our daughters will believe this message before they become mothers themselves. But over time, that message becomes something much heavier. It quietly teaches women that alcohol is not just a treat, but a tool for survival.
We talk about the reality of Mommy Wine Culture
In this episode of The No More Booze Podcast by Olivia Farrelly, I sit down to untangle what is really going on beneath what we call “mommy wine culture.” Together, we explore how these societal norms shape the way women experience parenting, stress, and even themselves. Because when alcohol becomes the default response to pressure, it can start to blur the line between relief and reliance.
From my work with women, I see this every day. Intelligent, capable, loving mothers who are not drinking for fun anymore, but to manage stress, to switch off, to get through. And yet, because it is so widely accepted, it can be difficult to even recognise it as a problem.

We talk about the sheer volume of messaging that links alcohol with self-care and relaxation, and how easily that narrative can lead to denial. Not in an extreme sense, but in the quiet ways we justify, minimise, or overlook what is actually happening.
More importantly, we talk about what sits underneath it all. The burnout. The pressure. The emotional load that so many women are carrying without enough support.
This is not about blame or shame. It is about awareness.
Because once you begin to see these patterns clearly, you can start to question them. You can begin to separate what you have been told from what you actually need.
This conversation is about helping you redefine your relationship with alcohol in a way that supports your mental health, your energy, and your sense of self. It is about finding healthier, more sustainable ways to cope that do not leave you feeling more depleted the next day.
If you have ever found yourself wondering whether the wine is really helping, or quietly feeling like there must be another way, I would really encourage you to listen to this episode.
I guarantee it will change the way you see things.
