Welcome to The Wholesome Path blog by Orlagh Reid for women going low and no alcohol and those who are taking charge of their relationship with alcohol.
Ladies, I’ve come to a place where alcohol no longer influences my lifestyle or daily habits.
I am not a non-drinker, nor am I a woman in alcohol sobriety. But my well-being journey and my profession as a Psychotherapist and Addiction Counsellor have taught me a lot about the damaging impact of alcohol on women’s health and livelihood.
I choose largely to live an alcohol free lifestyle and support women every day, taking control of their lives.
But coffee? That’s non-negotiable.
If you’d asked me 15 years ago, coffee barely featured in my life.
Now, my soft, creamy latte and that gentle caffeine buzz are one of the quiet highlights of my day.
Long walks followed by a warm coffee. Family time. Little café dates with my partner. Fifteen or twenty minutes of slowing down, breathing, and just being.
Somewhere along the way, I realised something surprising: I now socialise around you guessed it….coffee.
It could it be worse, right? Right!
There was a time in my 20s and 30s when alcohol was the centre of my social life, my world if I was honest.
But life changes. Children arrive. Energy shifts. Health conditions develop, and thankfully, priorities evolve.
These days, staying out past 7 p.m. feels ambitious; overstimulation daily is a real challenge, and I’m far more drawn to low-stimulus, nourishing ways of connecting. And honestly? I love it here.
And yes, I still crave those reckless carefree nights out from time to time. The mental load of motherhood and modern life is real, for every single one of u. The difference is, I let those thoughts just flow over me and remind myself that glorifying alcohol is what keeps us stuck.
What I’ve learned is this: when you move away from alcohol, go low and no alcohol, you don’t lose joy – you get to redefine it.
And this is my invitation to those women seeking an alcohol free lifestyle, a more wholesome path.
There is something in your life that brings you genuine pleasure without taking from your health… or sanity.
Something that supports your nervous system instead of draining it.
The more you get to know yourself, listen to your body, and give yourself permission to experience holistic pleasure, the easier this journey becomes.
Maybe you’re a coffee lover.
Maybe you’re a foodie.
Maybe you love baking, beautiful lunches, or the best gelato in town.
Whatever it is, follow that.
Because real, lasting change isn’t just about stepping away from unwanted habits—it’s about growing new ones. New rituals. New ways to socialise. New sources of warmth, connection, and joy.
That’s where the sweet spot lives.
You’ll wake up clear-headed.
No hangover.
No guilt.
No regret.
Just more of what truly works for you.
And that, ladies, is a life worth savouring.
